The
camp consists of two parts. Participants will stay with host families in the City of Oulu from 13th to 20th July and will get to know Oulu and the nearby regions. On the 20th of July they will travel to Kuusamo, to the Ruka National Park for a hiking camp. They will walk the “Karhunkierros” which in toatal is around 80 km of well established and nice forest/river trail. They will hike for five days, spending the nights in tents and forest cottages and return to a cottage close to the Ruka region on 25th July and spend the weekend fishing, mountain biking or canoeing. On 27th they will return to Oulu for a closing event on 28th July. Participants will return home from Oulu on 29th July.
The following must be taken, a backpack, a sleeping bag, weatherproof clothing and suitable shoes for hiking. During the day time the temperature is typically between 15 and 25 C. And, be prepared to meet some mosquitoes. They are very common in northern Finland .
